Dell XPS 15 9570 is missing BIOS updates
My Dell XPS 15 9570 laptop is currently running the Fedora Linux distribution and receives firmware updates automatically from the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS). So far so good, but I recently became aware that the same firmware version is not provided on Dell’s drivers and downloads page.
BIOS version deviation
The latest BIOS update made available for Microsoft Windows users is version 1.27.0. According to the LVFS, the latest BIOS version for the XPS 15 9570 is 1.30.0. Every update since version 1.27.0 has been classified as a critical update. In other words, if you’re running Microsoft Windows, you might be lacking important security updates.
The LVFS provides the BIOS updates for the Dell XPS 15 9570 as a combined update with the Dell Precision 5530. The Precision 5530 is the business version of the XPS, and apparently, it runs the same firmware.
Getting an up-to-date BIOS version
What can I say, keep calm and switch to Linux? Failing that, downloading and installing the latest BIOS update released for the Dell Precision 5530 should work fine.
I tried to make an inquiry with Dell about this potential oversight issue, but I never got a response.
